The Reinvented Power Suit

Hello My Little Cupcakes,

Throughout time, women have been told that suits are not feminine enough. But in 2017, there are new rules. The Power Suit has been reinvented. It’s not about the all-one fabric look or matching. It’s about taking an other wise masculine idea and turning it into an eye-catching must have!

The blazer is now feminized with exaggerated shoulders, cinched waist lines, gold buttons, and flattering silhouettes. In the 1900s, Coco Chanel proved that the Power Suit could be both powerful and chic. Today, celebrities and the like are putting a twist on the traditional suit. The new Power Suit says, “I have varied roles. I’m creative when I need to be, [edgy when I want to be] and corporate when called for" (The Hollywood Reporter).

I decided to put a sultry edge on the Power Suit. I opted for a blazer with an open neckline. The blazer features gold rounded buttons and silk rayon trimming. In addition, the blazer is actually a dress. The blazer is rather short in the front so I paired it with tailored pants to create my own version of a Power Suit. Since the off-the-shoulder look is in, I slouched the blazer off of one shoulder. For added  style, I wore a bandeau top underneath the blazer. To complete the look, I wore a popcorn bag, black pumps and round sunglasses. Work the Power Suit trend this season for effortlessly chic style.
